pumpkin patch
last night was a night of firsts.
the only pumpkin patch i'd ever been to prior to last evening was the massive cardboard boxes at the store.
ok, i've seen pumpkins growing in fields or gardens because i'm a country girl, but gone to an actual titled "pumpkin patch" during halloween- never.
my love affair with halloween has been precisely that- an affair.
i've just recently corrected my cheating ways and found some fondness worth being faithful to in the holiday.
mary is the reason i no longer cheat on holidays.
i have had good reason to despise halloween.
my first memories of hallows eve are scary...
one year nancy dressed up like a witch and had this awesome nose and spectacular make-up to match that my mother created.
i'd never seen such handiwork in a costume.
we attended a party and the next thing i know nancy's in a tither because all the kids had made fun of her.
here's this girl that looks awesome in her well planned out, worked on for hours costume, and some crapface little snots are rude to her.
kids can real be dirtbags, the biggest little dirtbags ever really.
i watched my nancy cry forever and try to rip off that spectacular nose amid her tears-
that's when i first started to hate halloween.
(no one but me messes with my nancy, even when i was little no one messed with my nancy, and i had a fierce temper when i was little, so watch out.)
after the witch episode i decided no costume or being a ghost were preferable costume options.
over the years i watched the same witch episode happen to me and a hundred other kids.
my hate grew.
then i got to an acceptable age to stop dressing up all together.
i figured i had entered the glory years of halloween.
i could still partake in the spectacular seasonal candy, and bask in the glory of costume creativeness, but i could be a spectator with no remorse.
cue nieces and nephew- enter stage left and right; foul up my deep holiday hatred.
seeing your sisters kids dressed in their favorite character with the prospect of bags full of candy.... that kind of scene softens ye olde hatred of halloween.
i'd already been soften and then mary came along- and then nyc came by. if you hate any holiday live in nyc with your kid.
i like you halloween.
you give me a reason to buy costumes in the off season and let my kid wear them all year long- mary as a puppy, princess, or gal riding a horse... come on.
also you give my brother and his wife a reason to dress up like some crazy awesome one armed involved duo that i look forward to every year.
bravo holiday.
now to the front story-
last night we went to thanksgiving point to cornbelly's.
porter and carlie figured out that the pumpkin patch portion is free- so you come through the exit, bypass the crazy ridiculously priced ticket line and get to see all the fine october festivities.
awhile back porter and carlie reserved mary for this friday to take her to a pumpkin patch.
nothing warms a mama's heart quite like a request like that from an aunt and uncle. (thanks forever)
i'll tell the rest of the story with pictures:

pumpkin decision dilemma
aunt maggie and "uncle" (or boyfriend) derek came too.
that triply warms a mama's heart. (thanks forever)
this had to happen
and just for good measure a million pictures of mary with pumpkins
a pumpkin mary could live inside
a must happen activity.
may have been mares favorite activity of the whole night.
mary literally loves cows
we then played a rousing game of cornball...
it was crazy throwing that massive ball around.
this happened in the arcade area
mary got all wide eyed when we were waiting for the pig races
the worst picture ever but proof there were indeed races
the pumpkin patch entourage
my first pumpkin patch experience was spectacular in every way.
on our way out we bought a teeny pumpkin for mares and she hugged that baby the whole ride home.
it might be the most adorable things ever purchased with 50 cents.
that pack of aunts and uncles won't know how spectacular this was until they have kids of their own and some does the same for them.
happy less than one week til halloween everyone- my holiday fidelity is no longer in question.
