a new gingerbread house

now i’m a firm believer in giving every holiday its chance.
thanksgiving deserves its month just as much as christmas deserves its.
but as soon as halloween is over my holiday heart strings start being pulled hard in the direction of christmas.
i start longingly looking over the christmas movie collection, perusing christmas gift ideas becomes second nature, and christmas specific holiday activity planning becomes top priority.
so, while I believe in thanksgiving, when porter, carlie, and maggie schemed a gingerbread house creation party i was first onboard.

i firmly appreciated the substitution of graham crackers for gingerbread; because gingerbread is not my favorite of the baked goods.
we supplied the candy décor and they supplied the main building material.
mary became gingerbread making pro in no time- instead of constructing an old school roofed house she outsmarted us all with the flat roof idea.
her yard was strung with cinnamon bears and half eaten candy.
a modern architectural artistic genius.
Then there was dale- his “church” turned into a number 4 subway car real fast when his roof wouldn’t hold.
a holidayed subway car- creative.
porter was satisfied with four walls and a roof- upon pressure he added some cinnamon bears and deemed it cinnamon bear haven.
carlie was pro- finished first and with the finest décor we all watched her closely for tips on construction.
maggie got creative and competitive- vying for the title of finest holiday home. No doubt hers was magnificently mastered.
last was my constructed homestead; i fell into competition with maggie and took the longest just to have my roof collapse minutes after our group picture.
mary was the all-time champ if experience and ability are weighed together (besides i’m completely biased so she gets the victory no matter what.)
it was a fabulous evening of pre-holiday cheer.
 her masterpiece
we even managed to watch a bit of elf before the evenings end- a christmas classic in our home.
I mourn a bit for thanksgiving every christmas decoration i see and every christmas jingle i hear but golly there is something undeniably spectacular about this time of year.
happy almost thanksgiving via christmas celebrating everyone.
