cabo part 2
the main landmark in cabo is land’s end and the arch at the southern tip of the peninsula.
we decided friday was our day to venture out to this grand landmark.
once again we got a solid tip to not pay more than $10 per person roundtrip to see it.
we finagled a bit with one guy and got aboard for a little less than $10 each.
our only fear was that he may or may not come back for us….
we were on a small local man’s boat, so there was really no guarantee he would remember us.
when we arrived we had to pile off real quick while the boat swayed to and fro near the beach.
it was almost an art to not find oneself head first in the sea.
there were plenty of men looking for a peso willing to assist if we were willing to tip; i risked a head pile and accepted minimum help. (I’m independent by nature anywho.)
out by the arch there’s this place called lover’s beach.
this pic tho.....
or at least the beach by the sea of cortez dotes such a name.
the pacific side is a bit less lucky; gaining the title of divorce beach.
we wanted to check out the beach a bit so we had our guide drop us off in hopes he would return.
divorce beach has extra crazy waves- at one moment i wasn’t paying attention and a massive wave came and almost claimed me for the sea. (it was a rather embarrassing lack of physical ability display)
i thought i was safe 10 feet from where the water had been coming; those waters are extra unpredictable.
i instantly become a bit leery of that side.
on lover’s beach dale and i swam out and back to the buoys 3 times
tranquil waters…. well there was still a solid current, but it was predictable.
we took some pics.
gathered some shells.
much to our chagrin our boat man returned.
it was lovely.
i’d dare say it looks more massive from far away, but it was incredible to see it close up.
we had a great boat guide too- he let us take about a million pictures and he gave us all sorts of views.
on one rock right by the arch there were a ton of seals; always awesome to see animals.
i took about 50 pictures of the whole experience.
we then headed back to the marina.
this fine patch of sand meets water is supposed to be the best snorkeling in cabo.
i love snorkeling.
that love developed thick while i lived in hawaii and it has only thickened since that time.
the only problem with snorkeling in cabo waters is the wave action.
for someone that is prone to seasickness this can really damper the whole snorkeling atmosphere.
my max ability to snorkel was about 20 minutes if i was lucky.
that constant sway got to me quick- and the constant taste of extreme saltwater only compounded the sick feeling.
those short 20 minute snorkel sessions were jammed pack with aquatic beauty.
there’s something incredibly beautiful about brightly colored, assorted sized, unique fish in their element.
there were schools of fish almost instantly when i stepped into the water.
at that moment i knew chileno was going to be nothing but impressive.
probably the most fascinating fish I saw was a pufferfish- there’s something about crazy fish like that that really catches my eye.
then there were brightly colored ones- the most beautiful of hues, almost poetically cutting through the water.
it was beautiful.
i would go out until i got sick, come in take a break, and go back out.
dale stayed out almost the whole day, every day.
it’s kind of my favorite to see my man’s love of the ocean.
he’s like a kid out there- he spends hours and hours just soaking up the saltwater.
a fishman.
after a perfect day at the beach we headed back in to town for some more food and a movie.
it was time for a taco switch up so we headed to a place called jack’s (in honor of mr. jack sparrow).
steak and potatoes never looked so good.
add a side of pina colada beverage and paradise was served for dinner.
then it was off to mockingjay- another $5 or so dollar movie night.
glorious.
thus ended day 3.
day 4 started how many of the other days did.
it also started with the same breakfast we had had for days- which i was thoroughly over.
then there was the lovely stench of sewage that woke us every morning.
i was just happy that there was hot water, even if the water pressure was barely a trickle.
my desire to be in a holiday inn express or a marriott increased exponentially every time i had to arrive back to our hotel.
it did have a few things going for it.
location.
price.
oh and
price.
not worth it though- i’m going to quit this frugal crap when it comes to hotel rooms from now on.
i learned a good hard lesson as a pregnant guest those 5 nights in mexico.
so we didn’t ever hang around our hotel for very long.
we headed back to chileno-
spent the day in snorkel/beach bliss.
and resolved to live by a beach for the majority of our lives.
every day we did a bit of tourist shopping.
there were some crazy great things; most the shopping i was doing was for mary.
It’s way more fun to look at things for little kids.
while we were shopping we came across the greatest cardigans ever for little kids- so we bought 2. one gender neutral version for baby on the way and one for mary.
we tried our hand at some haggling with a few people- sometimes successful, sometimes not so much.
by day 2 I was not only over peddlers, but also a bit depressed about the situation.
it’s like nyc on steroids but with some people, in what looked like, desperate situations.
the saddest was seeing small children asking for money.
broke my heart.
every day i realized a little more all the things i take for granted.
my “dump” of an apartment would seem luxurious to some people.
just the mere fact that i can drink a glass of water from my tap made me incredibly grateful.
i love America-
man i love America.
where the ability to rise above your current situation is a possibility and opportunity is afforded to anyone with a bit of will.
it’s remarkable the possibilities america gives.
i learned a lot of beautiful gratitudes on our 6 day trip to mexico.
after our day at the beach and touristy perusing we did a repeat dinner and movie date.
saturday was the day for 3D hobbit viewing.
once again, prior to its arrival in the states.
it was awesome.
it started at late so we went to the movie before we went to eat.
it started at late so we went to the movie before we went to eat.
best of the hobbit movies in my opinion.
may be the only one of the 3 i really liked every second of.
then came dinner at ole ole-we checked out all the restaurants along the marina.
some of those people were relentless in trying to get you to come to their joint.
they all tried to lure us in with the promise of 2 for 1 alcohol- then they deflated when we told them we didn’t drink.
ole ole was good.
dale went big with the steak and lobster.
i had gone big the night before so i scaled back a bit for this meal- can’t even remember what i got…. but i remember it was good.
another helping of pina colada’s and our night was complete.
