katz's delicatessen

now the honest truth is we don't go eat out much
nyc is wild expensive- - and well some of its most expensive "entertainment" is it's dining
now there are some treasure cheap food destinations but if you aren't looking food cart or hot dog then $14 burger is standard and "cheap".... where's my dollar menu folks.
we have splurged a couple of times- and i have been holding up, denying food cart temptations, forfeiting cupcake desires, and going hungry on outings just for such splurges.
ever since i google searched this baby i have been using self denial techniques on other food to make it happen.
katz's delicatessen
yes i conveniently watched when harry met sally just prior to going here.
i also looked up every possible movie ever filmed here because i am one of those creepy nyc kids that loves movie locations.
founded in 1888
known for the slogan "send a salami to your boy in the army"
serves 10,000 pounds of pastrami in a week
pastrami sandwiches and hot dogs are its known gig
here's some pics of what to expect when splurging at this establishment
arriving from the west (off of the F train on 2nd ave.)
upon entering they hand you this lovely little ticket for ordering
the walls are adorned with pictures of famous people and fan letters
here's what all the talks about
at a steep $16.95 a sandwich we got one to split
looked on the back of this baby
lost ticket fee= $50....
that grand old motto hanging from the rafters
the memorabilia in this joint is pretty impressive- you could sit at a different table every time and be entertained just looking at the walls
pastrami was delicious- moist, tender, leaner than any i have had, stacked high, no condiments required because it's good enough without.
french fries- - alright.... pass unless you need a stomach filler.
pickles- - not good in my opinion, but my standards are set high due to my grandmothers making the finest pickles in the world.
it was a lovely splurge to an iconic delicatessen.
happy lunching y'all.
