a week at the pacific

last week we were in california.
left on a saturday came back on a friday.
flew coast to coast- nyc to san diego.
mary was nearly an angel for the whole flight.
slept.
partied.
watched soundless t.v.
sat at our feet and acted a dream.
i really couldn't have asked for a better toddler flying experience.
even though she was extra great, being on a plane with layovers all day is pretty draining.
so when we arrived at 10 p.m. in san diego
and my internal clock was shouting 1 a.m.
and we still had an hour drive to oceanside
all i could think was sleep.
we got there.
had a fine sunday next day.
and then the every day, all day long, beach days started.
mares (and me) belong in a beach house.
ever since i first saw the pacific ocean back in 1st grade i knew my soul belonged on a beach.
actually the destiny began before we were acquainted- it began when i first knew of it's existence.
(which is actually true for a lot of things in my life...)
so we went to the beach.
it was a golding family reunion.
mary thoroughly enjoyed
every grain of sand stuck in every fold
every wave encounter
every sand crab search
every sandcastle building attempt
every personalized hole made by her papa
every denied cousin hug on the beach.
everything.
shall we see a toddler in her soulful element
 when i found beach heaven
 babies in wet suits= perfection
one evening dale found this impressive sand castle
mare got fancy with her patterns
she also fancified her beach running
 mares loved her personalized jacuzzi
she tried her hand at boogie boarding
she enlisted cousin jaden for toddler entertainment
had a bond sesh with ivy over puffs
 mares loved koi feeding
but the beach was her favorite
 hug deny #37
 itty bitty digger.... **my heart**
these three were always testing the fence limits by the road
we had to do this by the pacific too.
we got one sunset in before our east coast return
one of my all time favorites
 what we returned to
only bad thing about a week at the beach is that i got burned on day 1- so days 2-4 were, well, sunburned.
i (we) did all the classic beach things
walked down the pier
tried to find some sea life at low tide
did some boogie boarding but wished i was surfing.... oh surfing.
ate sand covered snacks
drank way too many unhealthy beverages while aimlessly staring at the ocean
pondered a lot of things
ran barefoot on the beach- or mostly walked- there were a few strides.
then we returned to nyc.
that's when i realized i won't be spending any of my summer in loa.
and my heart hurt.
i got really lonesome when we got back to the big apple.
lonesome for familiarity,
for my family.
had to keep racking my brain with all the things i love about nyc.
had to replace my loneliness with excitement for a city.

we were instantly sick when we got home so i had ample time to mope.
here's to summer in nyc.
i've got some plans i'm looking forward to.
