hogwarts express
from june 23-july 4th i was on a trip with my two youngest sisters (maggie and hannah) and my parents.
it was a road trip of sorts.
a grand tour of the united kingdom countryside.
i can't possibly fit the trip into one entry so i am going to break it up into categorized sections.
part 1- hogwarts express.
(because i was dying with excitement when i found out and i've been dying ever since.)
the first day we arrived in scotland via nyc--->toronto--->dublin--->glasgow.
i was the travel agent and pinching pennies is my profession so our arrival was a roundabout one.
we left the 23rd.
didn't get to glasgow til 2 pm on the 24th.
our hotel was in a place called dunvegan.
a 2 hour drive from glasgow.
so we pretty much landed, drove, and went to sleep. (perhaps part 2 of my writing will be day 1)
soooo on the 25th my mother had secretly booked a ride for we 3 sisters on the hogwarts express.
first class.
free biscuits and tea. (i've never been more tempted to sip a cup of tea than at this precise moment.)
ok it's not really called the hogwarts express but it may have well been. (the jacobite is it's real name....)
it's the train ride you see in all the harry potter movies.
fort williams to malaig
winding through rivers, loches, mountains, highlands, and coastal extremes.
it's said to be one of the most beautiful train rides in all the world.
it's hard for me to imagine a train ride being more beautiful.
plus it's harry potter....
i mean harry potter was 10 years of my life.
i waited painstakingly for every book.
relished every single word.
and perhaps shed a tear or 2 when it was over.
so my mom really hit the childhood/teenage/adult dream making lottery with this move.
it. was. beyond. awesome.
some pics of this grand journey.
it was quite the experience.
that whistle blow was like sweet music.
i could hear that train chanting up hills.
see the billow of smoke proving it's work ethic.
all the while riding snuggling and taking in majestic scenery.
lusciously green hills that turned to sharp jagged beauty almost instantaneously-
lakes and rivers and ocean almost magically became intertwined in the landscape;
effortlessly showing the power and ability of water to beautify.
all the while the sky, heavy with a misted fog, created a blanket of mystic loveliness that couldn't be topped.
it was a masterpiece that changed constantly over a 2 hour ride.
magical.
a ride i'll never forget.
thank you mom.
thank you so so so so much.
happy magical monday folks.

the express in all its glory
conductor for 2 seconds.
excitement times 100
our corridors.
mama mary really had us riding in style.
a taste of the view.
this is what i waited for the whole ride.
i knew it was coming because everyone started standing up, crowding the windows.
i was lucky to get this shot.
had to take turns with a couple of fellow train riders.
danger pics out of an open train car window= worth it.
my harry potter excitement radar was at about 1 million at this moment.
we went back to one of the harry potter like carriages when we stopped.
magic.
a sister selfie in the booth.
and one more view.
because this looks kind of magical right?
i've never ridden in a train pulled by a steam engine before.it was quite the experience.
