hadrian's wall and wales

part of our  monday road trip include some other fine sites.
such fine sites that i didn't want to cram them all into one post.
after melrose abbey we crossed the border.
it made me more depressed than i thought it would to leave scotland.
it was like my blood was aching to stay in it's homeland.
then my english blood talked to my scottish blood and prevailed in convincing it to take a visit to the other homeland.
(i think i have about 23 "homelands" if we are going to be honest so it wasn't such a depressing battle.- only a momentary defeat in the grand war of things.)
i didn't have many site requests on our trip but i wasn't going to miss seeing hadrian's wall.
in the book of mo (forgive me mother/ancestry) when it comes to historical love it goes american then roman.
so when the roman's build a wall across a country and it remains hundreds of nearly thousands of years later i must see it.
it did not disappoint.
we only went to a small portion of it by the visitors center-
can you imagine building a wall that divides a whole country?
plus it stands almost 2000 years later... (actually chances are it will last that long so let's just give it them.)
impressive.
i was in roman awe.
that's the wall on my right
hills ain't got nothin on romans.
besides building a wall they also included forts every roman mile.
they really went the extra "mile".... (ok stupid)
this was a portion of the wall that was the highest of the part we saw.
me for comparison.
then we saw the tree from robin hood-
it was as magical as i imagined.
while we were walking to the tree my little sisters decided to turn around and go back.
they hadn't seen the movie so it didn't seem worth it- (i mean for them i can't blame them)
plus it looked like it was going to be a long ways away.
come to find out it was just up over a hill and a half from where they were.
i learned a lesson on this day.
1. look at a map.
2. don't give up- what you're looking for could be just over the next hill.
also some side lessons that aren't as meaningful- just so i remember the experience.
shortcuts back can turn into long cuts.
shortcuts to avoid hills can mean one huge massive death hill at the end.

monday night we stayed in wales.
in caernarfon.
it is famous for the welsh language and castle.
welsh is an official language in this town.
our bed and breakfast was within the walls of the castle- it was awesome.
plus it was yellow.
i love me a yellow building- perhaps it's because the home i first lived in was yellow, or maybe not.
this was amusing-
turned on the t.v. at 10 and this is what i got.
if american t.v. stations did this it would be madness.
the castle, of whose walls we stayed in.
from the castle there was a huge fort like wall that extended down and around.
our bed and breakfast was within the fort walls.
a distant view of the castle.
these boats waiting for high tide were beautiful.
a few more because i loved them.
we hoped a forbidden fence to touch the atlantic ocean on the other side.
when we were traveling to wells monday night the sun was setting right when we got to the ocean.
i've seen a lot of beautiful sunsets in my life- this may vie for the title of most beautiful.
a massive sun
adorned in red that radiated every inch it touched
the sea below basking in it's final glow
it filled every space with beauty
no picture can replicate such beauty.

today was glorious.
they driving didn't even seem that bad with so many lovely break ups.
all the moments of the day seem like a beautiful blur.
i never want to forget how i felt on hadrian's wall
or when i saw that sunset on the coast of wales
or when melrose abbey introduced me to all her loveliness
moments like these make life beautiful in every way.

hope beauty is surrounding every bit of your life.
