battery park city
a week or so ago mary and i took to the underground to that lovely southern tip of manhattan
it's always crazy to me how different all the areas of manhattan can be.
downtown is a world of different when compared to the upper west side.
even battery park city is crazy different from say wall street (which is a short walk away).
it's really a fascinating aspect about this city- one foot can be in crazy midtown and the other in hell's kitchen.
every small nook of this island holds a different feel, different people, and, well, differences.
it's probably why so many people can find home here- there's really a neighborhood for everyone.
our neighborhood (the upper west side) for example is perfection for the family type- playgrounds flank both sides, easy access to subway lines, grocery stores close by, it's parental heaven.
midtown- well it's madness. when you have times square, grand central, madison square garden, the empire state building, herald square, the theater district, etc, etc all in one place... well that's a recipe for those crowded streets you see on the movies.
so occasionally we venture downtown- this one such occasion turned in to a mama/mary duel.
here are a few pictures of our grand bout.

she was good with historical immersion.
her ants in her pants were only mildly irritating her.
the immigration statue was her favorite.
when i wouldn't allow her to photo bomb every tourists picture she got t.o.ed
that's when things started south.
i thought a fountain would be a close second to the statue,
but she only kind of liked the fountains.
i may have sort of forced her to look at them on about 4 different occasions.
in between prying her grasp from the immigration statue and diverting her from the stairs.
that fourth time was the last straw.
i wagged unwanted motherly battle.
and came out victor.
(thank you secret sucker weapon)
after my long fought battle i ran into a stranger that told me, "you need to wipe her face off...."
and i wanted to slap her.
(i blogged about it earlier)
it wasn't my most pleasant outing with this rambunctious tot, but i will take a tot battle in return for constant views of the statue of liberty.
this place in very interesting.
it's pretty much one massive park/waterfront walkway.
glad we found some time to further explore this southern tip.
next time i will probably go during mary's nap....
happy saturday everyone.
