long distance

sometimes this long distance living is for the birds.
i have had what could have been a rather depressing week.
there are only a few things i really hate missing.
one of them is state track- when 2 sisters are competing.
may sound silly to some, but when you've been running since you can remember- it's what pulls at your heartstrings.
grateful heaven grants tender mercies to ease my lonesome heart.
always does, always will.
(i love you new york but couldn't you be closer to home?)
how heaven helped:
a busy week
great events to attend to
good people in my life
little sister texts that help everything
a brother that sends me constant updates
that same brother that helps me find a live broadcast of the meet on the internet.
ohhhh i love you internet- right now i. am. loving. you. a. lot.
inspiring moments from little sisters left and right-

like when the one is killing it in the 300h and falls but rises and wins.
if that doesn't scream inspiring; i don't know what's inspiring.

another sister that gives it her all in every race she does-
you can feel and see the tenacity in her every motion.
if that doesn't inspire persistence, enduring, and always striving for our best selves i don't know what will.

when the 2 of your sisters along with a pair of twins break records.
there's no finer example of unity, friendship, and success through hard work.

internet witnessing such fine sisterly accomplishments makes for one proud cross country sister.
i've learned this week that it's okay to accept every emotion you feel.
it's okay to be sad.
it's okay to be lonesome.
it's okay to be homesick.
it's okay to hate missing out on things.
it's okay to be proud to tears.
but in accepting every un-pleasantry you must accept the pleasantry's.
if you don't you'll be consumed with negativity.
so go ahead and feel-
but feel everything-
don't focus on good-
don't focus on bad-
focus on it all
it's the way to completeness.
i've found in my own situation that by focusing on all of it that good will win and happiness prevails.

sometimes we find happiness in sadness-
i hope every happiness to all of you.

  1. You have such a way with echoing the exact same words my heart feels! I felt the same way you described while you got to watch State Basketball and I was across the country. I totally get it. Thanks for beautifully and truthfully putting into words one of the hardest aspects of missing home.

    1. Kiana- thanks for saying such incredibly nice things. I love seeing all your adventures. You're doing big things. Your family is the greatest. Glad to have such a fine person as yourself to relate to.
